Individual and Couples' TherapyPrivate Individual & Couples’ Therapy Services
I’m happy that you have taken the first step in your journey toward a healthier well-being and more balanced life. I’d like to tell you a little about what services I offer to help you decide how to proceed with your care.

PHONE CONSULTATION- This 10 to 15 minute phone call allows us to briefly discuss why you are seeking services now, what you are hoping to get out of our work together, issues around payment and setting up an initial assessment. Our conversation will also allow you to discover if you think we might be a good therapeutic fit. Once this consultation is completed I’d like to encourage you to fill out the following intake forms (see forms at the bottom of the page) before our scheduled session. This allows us to spend our first session on you and not paperwork.

INITIAL ASSESSMENT- This 90 minute session will give us plenty of time to discuss the logistics of therapy including confidentiality and expectations. Most importantly, we will discuss what brings you to therapy at this time. We will explore any current symptoms, current stressors, possible risks, a social history, personal strengths and other pertinent topics. We will end our session by setting goals for your therapy. I believe that establishing a healthy and trusting therapeutic relationship is paramount for success.

INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY- I recommend that we meet weekly until you are feeling better. These sessions will be 50 minutes in duration. Therapy is a highly collaborative process where we work together toward your goals. During these sessions, we will develop a mutually agreed upon treatment plan which will allow me to use the most effective treatment to meet your needs. We will explore more positive alternatives to the negative thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviors that may be keeping you from fully understanding and accepting yourself and connecting with others. We will then set realistic goals, monitor growth and change, celebrate rewards or learn acceptance of things that can’t be changed. I work with individuals to address a variety of mental health challenges. Currently, in my private practice, I provide a safe and supportive environment for individual adults struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, infertility, low self-esteem, and challenging life transitions (newly married, divorced, new parents, career changes, launching children etc.). I have a special interest in working with women who are dealing with perinatal mood disorders.

COUPLES THERAPY- Similar to individual therapy, I recommend meeting weekly until a couple is less symptomatic. Early in the therapy process (session 2 & 3) I meet with each partner individually. During this session I get a more in depth social and family history. This is also a time where individuals can speak about any personal issue that they want me to know about. Although I am not a “secret keeper” I can work with individuals on effective ways to communicate these issues with their partner. I work with a diverse range of couples from dating, engaged, newly married, seasonally married and couples who are contemplating or are currently separated. I work with hetero and same sex couples.

NEW MOMS & MOMS OF TODDLER SUPPORT GROUPS- These groups are a nurturing place to share your experiences of being a mother of a new baby or toddler. Women gather information on topics that explore parenthood transitions, the emotional growth of your child, couples’ relationships post-baby, and the development of the parent-child relationship. Mothers who join our group have access to professional knowledge and the knowledge and support of other moms every week! Because the group is professionally facilitated, “tough” topics are raised that mothers may wonder about but hesitate to ask. This is a professionally guided group offering a relaxed, supportive environment to learn and grow during an exciting and sometimes challenging time.

While psychotherapy can be quite challenging, it can be extremely rewarding and highly beneficial for most people. My clients report consistently positive results from their experience in treatment such as possessing a greater sense well-being, improved mood, increased self-esteem, enhanced communication skills, improved relationships, less stress, greater coping, and deepened personal insight or meaning in their lives.
